Assessments
Children & Adolescents
"Understanding a young person’s unique profile is the first step toward providing the right support, in the right way."
At Blossom & Thrive Psychology, we offer comprehensive, evidence-based assessments to better understand a child or adolescent’s cognitive profile, attention and executive functioning, and neurodevelopmental differences. Assessments are conducted in a supportive, child-friendly environment, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with families and, where appropriate, schools.
Our assessment process is thorough and individualised, with the aim of providing clear, meaningful insights that guide practical supports across home and school environments.
Cognitive assessments provide insight into a young person’s thinking and learning profile. This includes areas such as verbal comprehension, fluid reasoning, visual-spatial skills, working memory, and processing speed.
Understanding these cognitive strengths and differences can help:
Identify learning profiles and thinking styles
Clarify factors impacting academic performance
Inform Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
Support applications for school-based funding
Explore intellectual disability or giftedness
Assessments are conducted using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) and are interpreted in a way that is both clinically meaningful and accessible for families and educators.
Cognitive Assessments
(WISC-V and WAIS-IV)
ADHD assessments involve a comprehensive exploration of a young person’s attention, impulsivity, and executive functioning skills across settings.
The assessment process may include:
Detailed developmental and clinical history
Diagnostic interviews (e.g. Young DIVA/DIVA)
Behavioural observations
Parent, teacher, and self-report questionnaires (e.g. Conners-4)
Assessment of executive functioning (e.g. CEFI)
Cognitive assessment where indicated
This multi-informant approach ensures a well-rounded understanding of how attentional and regulatory differences present in daily life. Findings are used to guide practical strategies, school supports, and recommendations for ongoing intervention.

Autism assessments are conducted using a neuroaffirming, strengths-based approach, with a focus on understanding each child’s unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world.
The assessment process may include:
Comprehensive developmental history
Parent and caregiver interviews
Behavioural observations across structured and unstructured contexts
Standardised assessment tools (e.g. ADOS-2, MIGDAS-2)
Rating scales completed by parents and teachers (e.g. CARS-2, ASRS, SRS)
Cognitive and adaptive functioning assessment where appropriate
Assessments aim to provide a holistic understanding of social communication, sensory processing, interests, and behavioural patterns. Outcomes are presented in a clear, respectful, and neuroaffirming manner, with practical recommendations to support the child across environments.
